Miley Cyrus’ audition tape for the Disney Channel’s “Hannah Montana” can be found on YouTube. In it, the 12-year-old Cyrus is sporting frizzy hair, a big smile- and, amazingly, even then her trademark whiskey drawl when she talks. She displays the practiced poise of all child actors – a fearlessness when it comes to staring straight into the camera and reciting her lines – and her posture and mannerisms reveal that she knows this is a business opportunity and not a social call.

Flash forward five years, and Cyrus’ latest YouTube offering, her video for the title track off her album “Can’t Be Tamed,” involves a birdcage set that doubles as a pole-dancing playground, writhing background dancers and an outfit notable for its feathers and decolletage. Like Disney teen idols Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake before her, Cyrus is now making the often-murky transition into adult artist. The June 22 release of “Can’t Be Tamed” is the boldest statement in a years-long process of transitioning Cyrus away from the scrubbed cheeks and all-American girl charm of “Hannah Montana” to a modern pop diva.

“I’m just at a certain place where I’ve changed a lot as a person,” she says. “I’ve grown up a lot, which everyone does.”

Miley is the new cover of Harper’s Bazaar, February 2010 issue! The issue is the magazine’s special Spring Fashion Issue and Miley looks very springy and very fashionable! The photos are incredible. For Miley Cyrus, who just turned 17, life is easily divided by fame. There are the 13 years before she was famous, and then there’s everything since. BF (Before Fame), sold-out crowds and red-carpet events were the domain of her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, and his achy-breaky heart. “I remember so many times when I was younger being like, Why does Dad sleep so much when he’s home from the road?” she says. “Why doesn’t Dad want to play? Now I’m starting to get it. When I come home from the road, the first thing I do is grab my baby sister [Noah Lindsey, 10] and hold her for as long as she’ll let me.”

These days, though, it’s all about Miley. Ever since she signed on to play an alter-ego version of herself called Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel four years ago, she has been crazy famous, her adolescence chronicled by the paparazzi, her every tweet dissected—before she deleted her account. (She was fed up with her posts becoming fodder for gossip sites.) “Everything is so dramatic in this world,” she says from an ugly little room at a coliseum on Long Island where she’s on tour and just finished a sound check. Tonight’s show, like all of her performances lately, is sold out.

On her new clothing line with Max Azria for Wal-Mart:
“The jeans are my favorite part of the entire line. Because, like, literally this is going to be good for, like, Middle America, and it will be great for kids that really want to be in fashion but that don’t have it available.”

On the difficulties of being a teen star and why she’s friends with other young performers:
“It’s hard for all of us. There are so many people that could be using you. So me and Nick and Demi, we don’t need anything from each other. We got our own thing going on.”
